More and more people no longer put their questions to a search engine but to an AI assistant. The answer comes directly – often without anyone visiting a website. For companies, this raises a new and decisive question: are we named in these answers at all? And if so, ahead of or behind the competition?

This is exactly what KI Score, the new product from TPWD AG, makes measurable.

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), also called Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), is the optimisation of a brand for AI-generated answers. Unlike classic SEO, it is not about positions in a list of results but about whether and how a brand appears in the answer itself: mentioned, well positioned and cited as a source.

Whether that succeeds depends on different signals than a Google ranking – such as structured content, citability and presence in the sources AI systems trust.

What KI Score measures

KI Score sums up a brand’s visibility in AI answers as a score from 0 to 100. What counts is how often and how prominently a brand is named.

Measurement always takes place in a market: a service in a region, for example “web design × Münster”. All brands in that market are tested with the same standardised set of questions. This makes the figures directly comparable – your own brand sits next to its competitors, with rank and trend over time.

By default, KI Score measures ChatGPT and Perplexity. Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, Claude and DeepSeek can be added.

For management: where you stand at a glance

What makes KI Score special as a GEO tool: the KI Score shows management at a glance where the company stands – including against the competition in its own market. Instead of many individual metrics, there is one number, one rank and one trend. This makes AI visibility as easy to assess and steer as any other key figure.

From score to action plan

For marketing, SEO and content teams, KI Score goes into depth:

  • Share of AI Voice and rank trend: a brand’s share of all mentions and how its place in the market develops.
  • Cited sources: which websites AI systems draw on when they answer about a brand.
  • Platform comparison: how often and in which position each AI system names a brand.
  • Real AI answers: what ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini actually answer – with position, sentiment and the competitors in the same answer.
  • Prompt library: the questions customers really ask, with the result for each one.
  • AI readiness check: how well your website is set up for AI crawlers and which gaps prevent citations.
